MEET OUR FOUNDER

Building support that feels more personal.

Torey Evans founded Every Step Pathways after working directly with adults with disabilities as a Direct Support Professional.

That experience shaped a simple belief: listen first, understand what matters to the person, and build support around the life they want to lead.

HIS STORY

A Note From Our Founder

“Good support starts with seeing the person before the service.”

Torey Evans

Before I started Every Step Pathways, I worked directly with adults with disabilities as a Direct Support Professional. That work taught me something I still come back to: good support starts with seeing the person before the service.

A service plan matters. So do the daily routines, the skills someone wants to practice, and the support they need. But a plan cannot tell you everything about a person. You have to listen. You have to learn what they enjoy, what they are interested in, which relationships matter to them, and what they want to do with their time.

I wanted to build an organization that took those details seriously. Instead of beginning with a calendar of activities and asking people to fit into it, I wanted us to begin by learning who someone is and then preparing support around what they choose.

My experience with creative projects, recreation, and bringing people together has shaped how I think about that work. It has made me consider more ways people might explore their interests and take part in their communities. Creativity is useful, but it does not replace the basics. Staff have to be prepared, respect individual decisions, carry out authorized services, and follow through on what they say they will do.

That's the thinking behind Every Step Pathways and our Every Step Village philosophy. Families, friends, support professionals, local businesses, and community groups can help someone explore a job interest, enjoy a hobby, meet people, or take part in their neighborhood. The person chooses which connections they want.

I don't want people to simply receive services. I want them to experience more of life, on their own terms. To me, that's where purpose and a passion for life come in. They won't look the same for everyone, and they shouldn't have to.

We are preparing staff systems, service procedures, and community relationships so that our intentions are reflected in daily practice. Every path is different. Every step is intentional.
